I missed the opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. I have this habit of being out of the country when major celebrations of nationhood crank up. I completely missed all the G8 stuff as well. It's not deliberate.
Well...
To be honest, I am a tiddly taddly bit worried about Scotland's image at the moment. I wasn't running away or anything, it was just a family holiday (see pic, above, of Atomium, Belgium). But all the pre-Referendum mud-slinging from both sides, some of the creeping nationalist undercurrents on social media kind of give me the jeebies and I am not sure seeing the Crankies could have helped this unease to dissipate, despite their acknowledged talent/wider cultural significance, etc. Then again, I have never been known to refuse a Tunnocks tea cake. So, how did we do? As I said, I am a bit worried... (am I allowed to admit this?).
PS: The author page for 'Sheep and Other Stories', volume 1 in the Forgotten Scotland Mini-reads series is now live on Amazon. You can buy a copy for 79p which is not a lot of money unless you're completely skint. If you're completely skint (and I have been), it would be an irresponsible show of profligacy and would probably be best avoided.
